Ian Russell Flick Rig Bundle

Ian Russell’s Flick Rig Bundle

A rig made famous by our very own Ian Russell on the big carp circuit many years ago is not only back in his armoury but also available as an exciting terminal tackle bundle.

Made possible thanks to the release of the new Lock Longshank Hook, the Flick Rig is effectively the legendary Hinged Stiff Rig but with even more aggression. Once Ian started using the Hinge with a Longshank Hook, he never looked back. As he said, “When I first started using this rig, every time I flicked it out, I hooked a fish, hence the name ‘Flick Rig’.”

Bundle includes:

• Lock Longshank Hooks
• 25lb Memory Hooklink
• Blend Fluorocarbon Soft 20lb
• Vitabitz Micro Ring Swivel
• Vitabitz Ring Swivel
• Blend Tungsten Anti Tangle Sleeve

How to tie:

1. Cut yourself a 4–6-inch length of Memory Hooklink.
2. Pass this through the eye of a Lock Longshank Hook, leaving a long tag, and whip a knotless knot.
3. Add a Vitabitz Micro Ring Swivel to the tag and pass the tag back through the eye of the hook to create a small ‘D’.
4. Cut any excess tag end and blob down with a lighter.
5. Tie the remaining end of the Memory Hooklink to the small eye on the Vitabitz Ring Swivel with a blood knot (you don’t need many turns with this material).
6. Cut your desired length of Blend Fluorocarbon Soft 20lb, somewhere between 6–12 inches is ideal.
7. Tie this to the large ring on the Vitabitz Ring Swivel with a Grinner Knot.
8. At the other end of the hooklink, thread on your Blend Tungsten Anti Tangle Sleeve.
9. Finish the rig with an Overhand or Twisted Figure of Eight Loop Knot.
10. Floss on your chosen pop-up, balance with Putty and flick it out!

Whilst the Hinge Rig is nothing new, you’ll be amazed at the results when it’s used like this with a Longshank Hook. It rips up the traditional rulebook in phenomenal style. One of Ian’s all-time favourites – get on the Flick Rig!
