MONSTER 120LB-PLUS CATFISH TOPS STAGGERING CARP HAUL

You’ll see few better fishing trips this year than the one experienced recently by loyal OMC customer Ian Holloway and his friends Steve and Jordan. During their week-long session, the group landed 49 fish in total, including several personal bests and a truly enormous catfish that took around 30 minutes to land...

The epic session took place at Trident Lakes, the third time the trio had visited the picturesque and underrated venue.

Fishing on the Main Lake, the team opted for a heavy baiting approach using the iScream boilie range in combination with hemp, maize and iScream Nutty Sauce.

Over the top of this mix, all three anglers fished Size 4 Lock Hook Spinner Rigs with Kickback Linkz, or Slip-D Coated Braid Rigs attached to Corefree Leaders and Magic Wands.

The result was more than 30 carp, including two fifties, 10 forties and 17 thirties – truly NUTTY fishing by any anglers' or any venue's standards! The type of fishing many UK anglers dream of on a fishing trip to Europe. 

But that wasn’t the main event of the trip. Over on the catfish lake, the group had three rods set up with Size 4 Kickback Linkz Ronnie Rigs, paired with Infused Paella Dumbbell Hookbaits and trimmed Paella pop-ups over a mix of Paella boilies in varied sizes. Those tactics were about to produce some seriously rod-bending action…

“Cats started coming before long at 20lb, 27lb and 65lb before we hooked something substantially bigger,” Ian told us.

“After this huge fish had finished charging around, it decided to sit directly under the rod tip and use its body weight to hold the bottom.

“Eventually, a 7ft-long 125lb catfish was on the bank!”

If that wasn’t a big enough battle, just two hours later the group followed it up with a 94lb catfish.

“Size 4 Lock Hooks held strong every time,” Ian said.

“We didn’t catch the biggest carp, but we came very close and, with personal bests and pretty much every fish over 30lb, it really was a great trip.”
