4 Boilie Baiting Tips for Big Carp in the Autumn | David Rosemeier
October and November can be some of the hottest months of the year for UK carp anglers. Now is the perfect moment to target big carp as they build up reserves for the winter ahead. How this can be achieved, and which details matter most for success on the bank, is what David Rosemeier explores in the article below...
Colourful trees, rustling leaves, and crisp, cool air – autumn has its own unique charm, and many carp anglers particularly enjoy this time of year. Alongside the stunning scenery by the water, this season offers one of the best chances to catch big, heavy carp – if you approach it the right way.
Here are some valuable autumn carp fishing tips to help you make the most of this golden season.

Bait as a Trump Card
As the water temperatures begin to drop, the carp’s natural food sources become scarcer. This is exactly when fish are most likely to gratefully accept your bait to fatten up for the colder months.
If you’ve chosen your feeding spot wisely, maintained it consistently, and the carp have started to visit it regularly, you can experience magical autumn sessions and land some impressive fish during this period.
For my feeding spot, I rely on subtle Paella Boilies, complemented by a few bright iScream Boilies as visual attractors or eye-catchers.

Pay Attention When Choosing Your Water
For many carp anglers, the arrival of golden October automatically signals the start of introducing larger quantities of bait. If handled smartly, this can be very effective on many waters during autumn.
However, on pressured venues with many anglers already pre-baiting, this tactic can quickly backfire. With so much food available, the carp may simply feed less frequently. In these situations, using highly attractive baits can make all the difference and help trigger those first crucial bites.

Carbohydrate Boilies for Faster Digestion
If you’ve decided to feed larger amounts, it’s vital to pay close attention to what type of bait goes into your swim...

Fishmeal boilies, although nutritious and energy-rich, can fill carp quickly and reduce feeding activity.
In contrast, carbohydrate-based boilies are easier to digest, allowing the carp to feed more frequently without becoming overly full. Because of this, these nutrient-rich baits are ideal for feeding heavily in autumn without over-saturating the fish.

Selecting the Right Bait for Your Feeding Spot
Once the fish have accepted your feeding spot, your next goal is to encourage the bigger carp to move in by gradually phasing out the smaller ones.
To do this, slowly stop using highly attractive particles and paste baits, and transition towards using only boilies. Continue this approach until your spot consists solely of boilies. Over time, the smaller fish will move away, while the larger carp will increasingly dominate the area.
After a steady period of boilie-only feeding, you’ll be well set for a successful autumn carp session – hopefully crowned by a big fish on the end of your line.

Wishing You a Successful Autumn!
