'Quick Overnighter' Brings Max His Target Mirror...It's a Unit!

Our very own Max Braby has landed an enormous mirror carp during a lightning-fast overnight session, arriving lakeside at 9:30pm and leaving by 5:00am the following morning — proof that big results don't always need long stints on the bank. Here's the story in his own words...

I got to the lake around 9:30pm, ready for an awfully quick overnighter, with the plan to be leaving the lake again at 5:00am. I had a good idea where the fish would be holding up with the weather conditions, so I got the kit on the barrow and got round to the zone. I then spent a few minutes listening in the dark for any signs of fish, and it didn't take long for one to boom out in front of me.

The rods went out onto spots I had fished previously, using my ever faithful Multi Combi Slip D Rig with a size 2 Lock Hook and an iScream Cured Bottom Bait, which was drilled out and plugged with a small amount of cork. I fished these rigs over a bed of iScream Boilies in 14mm and 20mm.

At 3am the right-hand rod let out a couple of beeps, and I could see the bobbin lifting slowly. As soon as I picked up the rod, the fish was completely lodged in the weed. After some steady pressure, the fish started moving, and with it came a massive weed bed. I brought the weed bed to the bank, and I jumped in the waders to dig through the weed, hoping that a carp was buried inside. In the torchlight a very large head came into view after lots of digging, so I slid the net underneath the weed where the fish was and bundled the carp into the net. It was then that I realised what I had caught — a very big carp and one of the rare ones for the lake, a right result for so much effort on an extremely short overnighter!

On the scales she went 44lb 4oz, another incredible carp which couldn't deal with the Multi Combi Slip D Rig and size 2 Lock Hook! I did some quick self-takes in the dark and let her go, before making a mad dash back to the car park at 5am, absolutely buzzing with what had just happened. Two of my targets within a week, plus my main target from a different syndicate the week before that! The OMC Bait Range is certainly producing the goods for me this season...
